The Lean Change Agent – Training & Development Lead will lead teams and individuals as a coach and mentor for change to influence and enable a culture of continuous improvement through lean transformation to help drive implementation of the organization's strategic plan. Also, responsible for the development and delivery of lean training and development for lean team and Geisinger Health. By exhibiting a strong ability to solve problems, develop and coach teams, and utilize lean tools and processes, leads implementation of specific strategic initiatives and related lean training activities across the organization. Guides and enables multi-disciplinary teams to identify improvement opportunities, gather data, assess analytics, adopt best practices and implement and sustain changes. Focuses on multi-project initiatives at service line, platform and regional level (and involving major segments of the organization) to achieve improved patient and member experience and quality, plus staff satisfaction. Leads and co-leads training and skills transfer in lean and related change management tools, to improve patient and member service levels and experience, improve employee engagement, and enable providers to spend optimal time focusing on patient care. Major duties and responsibilities include:
Develop training and development program for lean change agents.
Develop training and development program to delivery lean transformation to all entities included in Geisinger Health.
Coach and mentor lean team members and teams to influence and enable a culture of continuous improvement through lean transformation to help drive implementation of the organization's strategic plan.
Responsible for defining developmental opportunities for lean change agents and helping LCAs reach their potential.
Creates and fosters change in a rapid, positive, proactive manner. Promotes the use of critical thinking skills to solve problems.
Coordinates, facilitates and leads process flow review, related analytics, opportunity identification and corresponding implementation of Lean-based tools and processes within the assigned areas/departments to improve patient/member quality, safety and satisfaction, plus related opportunities to improve provider efficiency and satisfaction.
Facilitates development of key performance indicators to confirm and monitor success.
Assists in the design and delivery of skills transfer content to leaders and staff specific to Lean and related change management principles, tools and processes (including real-world application).
Prepares and submits reports as requested, and informs dashboard management per a specific strategic plan initiative.
Leads improvement initiatives that may span multiple system areas over an extended period of time, and in ongoing coordination with colleagues within the Achieving Excellence Project Management Office.
Monitors Lean and related change management efforts and escalates challenges that cannot be solved to the Director, Lean Transformation, VP and/or other key leaders associated with strategic plan implementation.
Develops infrastructure for success and sustainability of high performance and accountability.
Supervises and coordinates work efforts of Associate and Intermediate Lean Change Agents for completion of project tasks. Responsible for working with Director on performing performance reviews for Associate and Intermediate Lean Change Agents.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Engineering (industrial/systems/management), Operations Research, Business Administration, Statistics, Finance/Accounting or related field required. Minimum of eight years of experience in complex process improvement, quality improvement/assurance, efficiency or related lean area directly working with executive/administrative leadership in organizations required. Minimum of five years of experience in a complex healthcare organization required.
MBA, MHA or other related master's degree required. Minimum of five years of experience in complex process improvement, quality improvement/assurance, efficiency or related lean area directly working with executive/administrative leadership in organizations required. Minimum of three years of experience in a complex healthcare organization required.
Certification in Improvement Methodology (Lean, Six Sigma, ASQ, PDSA, Scientific Method, etc.) or other documented advanced training / education is required. Baldrige experience preferred.
Expert user of MS Project, Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint required along with strong analytical and presentation skills.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands:
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Travel throughout the Health System required.
