The University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the College of Engineering. The specific area of interest is for someone working in the area of bioinstrumentation and/or technology development who will build a robust research program in one or more areas of high clinical relevance.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong, high-visibility high-quality externally-funded research program. The candidate will also be expected to teach courses in Biomedical Engineering at the undergraduate and graduate level, especially in the area of hands-on design/build courses that are part of the College of Engineering’s plans for a four-year design sequence, which includes the existing senior capstone course. In addition to teaching, the selected individual will contribute to mentoring students, including those historically underrepresented in higher education.
The successful candidate should have a background that allows him or her to participate in the critical interface between the engineer/scientists in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and clinician scientists in the College of Medicine to identify and find solutions to unmet clinical needs. The successful candidate is also expected to actively contribute to an academic environment that nurtures collaboration between BME and other departments/colleges across the University of Arizona campus.
The successful candidate will also participate in outreach and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. In these, and other ways, the faculty member will help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, increasing diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Biomedical Engineering, or related engineering discipline with an emphasis on bioinstrumentation development, construction, and performance evaluation. Past experience providing evidence of the ability to teach and mentor effectively at the graduate and/or undergraduate student levels is also desired.
Experience working with clinical colleagues and/or industrial partners is considered a strength for this position. The candidate’s record of publication, research funding, and creation of intellectual property are also relevant to the evaluation of candidates.
