We are seeking an experienced professional with skills and qualifications in the following area: Job # 18-0005 – Engineer, Design (Electrical/Automation)– Owensboro, KY
This position reports directly to the Manager of Project Engineering and provides electrical, instrumentation and automation engineering direction and technical assistance for the design, development, and execution of natural gas facilities; including but not limited to:
compression, transmission, storage, measurement, regulation, and other related gas handling equipment/facilities.
Performs engineering tasks and projects of varying complexity, relying on established guidelines, general direction, and increasing experience. (Technical assignments completed with support from Manager and senior engineers as required for less experienced engineers).
Plans and conducts work requiring independent evaluation.

Engineering classification and compensation shall be commensurate with experience and qualifications. All levels of electrical/instrumentation and automation experience will be evaluated and considered for this position.
Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Provide electrical/instrumentation and automation/controls engineering design support to the Company, as needed to complete annual capital and maintenance budgets (inception, scoping and estimating, design, execution, installation and commissioning of assigned projects)
Specify electrical and controls equipment and material
Design and support software related activities for PLC’s and HMI’s including development and diagnostic duties
Provide guidance and provide design, support and analysis of EFM, SCADA, PLC, and telecommunications and process control installations
Engineering design, including engineering calculations, or design coordination on projects
Support Project Managers in the contracting of third party technical resources
Familiarity with service contracts
Provide remote and on-site project support and project commissioning
Support the development of project budgets and assist with forecasting expenses
Perform monitoring and diagnostics of raw data collection and data transfer
Provide progress reports and other project related work for capital and maintenance projects
Monitor facility designs for compliance with all business objectives, applicable regulations, and Company policies and procedures
Develop knowledge of key electrical, instrumentation and automation equipment suppliers
Initiate positive relationships with key suppliers, review supplier agreements and monitor supplier compliance
Familiarization with industry standards and regulations as applied by AGA, FCC, NEC, DOT, ANSI, OSHA and other relevant regulations Communication and Collaboration
Support vendor quoting, selection and evaluation process
Develop a working knowledge of flow computers, telecommunications equipment, engine and motor controls and state of the art technologies for the purpose of enhancing Company applications
Develop a more thorough understanding of equipment and the operation and maintenance of automation and control systems
Coordinate with third party engineering consulting firms to ensure facilities meet all applicable industry and Company standards and specifications
Provide automation and controls engineering technical support, troubleshooting, and problem solving for operating issues relating to pipelines, gas regulating and measurement equipment, compressor station facilities, storage facilities, and other gas handling facilities
Assist with Company equipment replacement plans
Support Company or industry initiatives that enhance the overall safety, reliability, and efficiency of the gas transmission system
Become familiar with Company Design Standards and Specifications
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electrical and Computer Engineering (BSECE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME) with emphasis in Controls or Automation or related engineering field
Entry level to 3 years’ experience in applying engineering principals towards the design, construction or operations of energy or manufacturing facilities.
Valid driver’s license and insurability
Ability to work overtime with minimal prior notice
Ability to read, understand, and apply directions, policies, procedures, guidelines, requirements, and regulations
Ability to read and understand, project drawings (E&I, P&ID, piping, equipment, etc.),
Ability to work independently or work successfully with individuals throughout organization
Demonstrated problem-solving and interpersonal skills including teamwork skills
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
Attention to detail and possessing time management and project skills required to complete project objectives
Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office applications or similar
Experience working with direction to complete projects with defined timelines
2+ years’ automation design experience specifying, designing, programming automation and control systems, PLC’s or HMI’s
Demonstrated success in a design engineering or project lead role
Understanding of software development and computer programming
Familiarity with financial reporting and project management software
Ability to work overtime with or without notice
Ability to work in both an open office environment as well as outside in varied weather conditions to support project execution and commissioning efforts
Ability to work positively and effectively prioritize in a high-stress, demanding environment
Travel up to 25% average, automobile and plane
