The Department of Public Works (DPW) are recruiting Public Works Engineers II, who perform engineering functions such as the planning and designing of roadway, flood control and solid waste management projects; including the development of plans specifications and cost estimates. This position is also involved in traffic engineering, pavement management, storm water quality, permitting and land development; reviewing plans and specifications for compliance, conducting studies and preparing concise engineering reports and correspondence.
Vacancies exists throughout the various divisions of Public Works. The resulting list may be used to fill other vacancies as they occur throughout the County.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background: Incumbents must successfully complete a background check prior to appointment.
Travel: Travel to various sites throughout the County and State is required; a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided at time of hire.
Physical: Frequent sitting, occasional walking, standing, bending, and squatting; fine manipulation in both hands; continuously reaches or works below the shoulder level; must frequently demonstrate near vision and occasionally demonstrate far vision; occasionally lift or carry up to ten (10) pounds; occasionally works near equipment and machinery on rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; occasionally exposed to dust, gas, toxic materials, noise, and extremes in temperature and/or humidity; occasionally uses protective equipment or clothing.
Certificate: Incumbents must possess a state-issued Registered Civil Engineer Certification or an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate issued by the National Council of Engineering Examiners or the Board for Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Education: Forty-five (45) semester (68 quarter) units of completed college coursework from an accredited university in civil engineering, engineering construction technology, or a closely related field, of which thirty-five (35) semester (53 quarter) units must be upper division courses.
Experience: One (1) year of professional civil engineering experience OR four (4) years of technical civil engineering experience, which included the application of civil engineering formulas, theories, and practices to the construction, design, and inspection of public works projects.
Substitution: A Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) from a university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) may substitute for the required experience. Possession of a professional civil engineer's license issued in California or another state may substitute for the required education.
