We are looking for a Licensed Engineer to join our team. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, as well as possess a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan. Experience in PowerGEOPAK or Open Roads Designer and using, creating, or reviewing parametric 3D roadway models preferred.
General Summary of Functions
Serve the department as the statewide specialist for statewide support for the Department’s engineering software programs (for parametric roadway and site design modeling). Responsible in charge of the Department’s components and templates for MDOT’s custom roadway design libraries. Statewide specialist responsible for the coordination and development of roadway design modeling training programs for statewide staff and engineering consultant organizations. Responsible and in charge of developing and maintaining the statewide roadway modeling design submittal requirements in accordance with MDOT Civil Integrated Management (CIM) goals and other federal design automation initiatives such as Every Day Counts (EDC).
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and provide statewide support for MDOT’s roadway design modeling software.
Develop and maintain standards, procedures and system documentation. Assist with MDOT sample plans and road design manual to ensure statewide consistency and alignment with road design procedures.
Develop and maintain statewide department parametric design modeling goals and plans for statewide implementation.
Answer questions and solve problems for statewide users of MDOT’s adopted roadway design modeling software, including consultants. Must apply knowledge of computer systems, roadway design software, enhancements, design standards, techniques, specifications and policy.
Customer/user support is a critical function of this position to minimize delays in the design process.
Determine and set the policies and procedures for road design modeling practices using the department mandated software to ensure consistency and alignment with statewide and federal CIM initiatives.
Develop and manage frequently asked questions and software enhancement requests for communication with the MDOT road design community and software vendor.
Make recommendations to Supervisor and software vendor in areas of expertise with use of road design software. Coordinate, test, and implement statewide enhancements and new releases to the roadway design software with vendors and DTMB Agency Services. Act as a liaison to division/bureau personnel and industry partners for consultation on roadway engineering application problems and enhancements.
Meet with vendor and engineering software consultants to review/assess products. Review and evaluate available software/hardware systems to determine potential benefits as it applies to roadway design applications. Identify methods to further automate roadway engineering design activities including CIM and other MDOT initiatives. Assist unit members with configuration of the road design software to meet MDOT business needs.
Serve as a technical consultant and liaison to the MDOT road design community. Gather feedback for future improvement to MDOT’s road design software.
Maintain records, prepare reports and communicate policy for MDOT’s road design software.
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
Possess a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan
Experience in PowerGEOPAK or Open Roads Designer
Experience using, creating, or reviewing parametric 3D roadway models.
