Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Biomedical Engineering, the Biomedical Technician develops proficiency in managing clinical engineering functions relating to biomedical equipment, technology administration, maintenance and clinical application. Duties to include new equipment evaluation, risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety issue research/resolution, development of technical reference material, training, and assistance with establishment of administrative policies and procedures.
Job Duties are to provide assistance to the Director of Biomedical Engineering in the following areas:
• Develops and oversees implementation of regulatory standards and policies and procedures applicable to all technical areas of service.
• Develops and oversees training programs for technical staff and clinical staff. Assures adequate training for clinical staff inventory requirements. Maintains current and accurate technician qualification sheets and competency program. • Evaluates qualifications and competencies of contractors under service agreements.
• Performs clinical investigations in support of medical risk management as it relates to potential hazards and incidents involving medical equipment and accessories to medical devices.
• Interprets technical data and specifications to assist in the procurement of new equipment purchases, and provides guidance as it relates to maintenance of medical and scientific instrumentation based on clinical application, manufacturer guidelines, national code, standard of care, and clinical requirement.
• Provides feedback to assist in the planning of new facility modifications as they relate to medical equipment and accessories used in new or modified clinical care areas.
• Develops and implements performance improvement initiatives. Initiates studies and surveys, prepares reports, recommends and implements solutions.
• Serves as a consultant on company-wide projects and acts in the capacity of project leader or facilitator. Represents and backs-up management staff when necessary.
• Manages the Environmental Safety Management Program to include: Medical Gas Monitoring, Hazardous Materials Management, Indoor Air Quality, and Regulatory Compliance
• Other duties as assigned.
