The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) Bicycle and Pedestrian Program is growing and needs help to further develop walking and bicycling as key components of Vermont’s transportation system. The individual hired as the Assistant Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator will have the opportunity to take the initiative and advance the program consistent with the strategic goals of VTrans. Work will be varied and challenging and will include:
Developing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure design guidance
Safety and education outreach
The position is in the Municipal Assistance Bureau of VTrans’ Highway Division. Approximately 20% of the job duties will be in direct support of the VTrans Bike/Ped program and 80% of the duties will be in the role of Project Supervisor, working with municipalities who have been granted federal and/or state funds to complete primarily bicycle and pedestrian projects. The position requires solid knowledge of transportation engineering and planning and strong organizational and communication skills. The individual in this position will work as part of a team, but must be comfortable working independently. This position works with all parts of VTrans and with many external partners including consultant engineering firms, regional planning commissions, and municipalities, among others.
