Performs skilled technical duties relating to public improvement projects, which includes engineering surveys, 3D computer drafting and design, developing plans for construction, and inspection of projects in accordance with city, state and federal standards and requirements. Works as team member with other technicians and engineers.
Depending upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities possessed by the successful applicant, this position may be filled as either an Engineering Technician 1 or Engineering Technician 2. If filled as an Engineering Technician 1, the employee is considered to be on a continuing training status and expected to work towards obtaining the skills required of the Engineering Technician 2 level. Once the employee's supervisor determines that the required skill level has been achieved, the employee flexes to the second level in the series.
Experience and Training Guidelines- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Engineering Technician 1: Experience and Training: One year experience in civil engineering survey, computer aided drafting, and/or inspection work. Associate's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field; Bachelor's degree in civil engineering preferred. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain an appropriate, valid Oregon driver's license. Engineering Technician 2: Experience and Training: Three years experience in civil engineering survey, drafting and inspection work. Associate's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field; Bachelor's degree in civil engineering preferred. License or Certificate: Possession of or ability to obtain, and maintain an appropriate, valid Oregon driver's license. Ability to obtain the following certifications within a reasonable amount of time. Typically obtained within twenty-four (24) months.
