Job Description

• The Office of Corridor Planning at DVRPC focuses on travel corridors or small areas, and involves extensive coordination among government and transportation agencies, considering all modes of transportation and their roles in shaping communities. Our goal is to apply a full range of planning and transportation analysis tools and principles, in order to fulfill DVRPC’s vision of making a great region even greater.
• This position involves planning and technical analysis, and direct participation in regionally significant multimodal planning projects. Work involves the determination and selection of project objectives and methods, and responsibility for project deliverables. This includes technical analysis, development of medium- and long-range plans, and various types of street, highway, and transit evaluations.
• This position requires project-level collaboration with a diversified group of planning and technical staff. Work is performed in accordance with general agency policies and professional standards with results subject to review by the Manager, Office of Corridor Planning.

Responsibilities

• Develop effective communication strategies (written, graphical, and presentation) to explain project concepts and engage with colleagues, policymaking officials, members of the public, and advisory groups.
• Develop, implement, and coordinate multimodal transportation projects, including specification of the problem, data collection and analysis, interpretation and reporting of results, and the development of recommendations for project implementation.
• Conduct technical studies which evaluate the effectiveness of a transportation system and then analyze alternative improvement strategies to determine how well they meet desired measures of effectiveness.
• Use planning and engineering computer software such as GIS, travel simulation software, and other techniques to evaluate corridor and area-specific traffic problems and develop solutions.
• Calculate travel time, delay, level of service, volume/capacity ratio, and other operational measures of effectiveness for highway, transit, and non-motorized modes.
• Conduct field views of project locations to compile an inventory of existing physical and operating conditions.
• Provide technical assistance to member governments, consultants, and the public.
• Organize and manage technical committee meetings.
• Provide other technical assistance, as required.
