Applicants must meet all of the following:

Certificate:
Incumbents must possess a state-issued Registered Civil Engineer Certification or an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate issued by the National Council of Engineering Examiners or the Board for Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Education:
Forty-five (45) semester (68 quarter) units of completed college coursework from an accredited university in civil engineering, engineering construction technology, or a closely related field, of which thirty-five (35) semester (53 quarter) units must be upper division courses.

Experience:
One (1) year of professional civil engineering experience OR four (4) years of technical civil engineering experience, which included the application of civil engineering formulas, theories, and practices to the construction, design, and inspection of public works projects.

Substitution:
A Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) from a university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) may substitute for the required experience. Possession of a professional civil engineer's license issued in California or another state may substitute for the required education.

Note: Indicate the state in which you are licensed on the application.

A legible copy of transcripts MUST be submitted with the application if a BSCE degree (or higher) has not been conferred.

NOTE: Applicants with college coursework completed outside the United States MUST submit an equivalency report from an accredited credential evaluation service with the application.
