The Engineering, Traffic and Survey (ETS) division within Land Use & Transportation (LUT) is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer with significant knowledge in the oversight, operation, and maintenance of Traffic Signal Systems, and Intelligent Transportation (ITS) infrastructure.
The incumbent in this role will be responsible for supervising the preparation of traffic signal timing plans; traffic engineering investigations and reports; and related projects in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) standards and practices. Additional duties include supervising, planning and writing work orders for fabricating, installing, removing, or modifying traffic control devices. The individual in this role will also be responsible for representing the department at meetings related to traffic or transportation engineering and conferring with the public on traffic control issues and/or regulations.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of traffic signal timing experience as well as a thorough understanding of the systems, software, techniques, and technology used to manage a large network of traffic signals. In addition, the individual in this role must be a self-starter and able to interact and communicate effectively with internal and external customers, as well as managing and leading a group of maintenance staff.
Education and Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Bachelor's Degree in structural or civil engineering; AND
Four years of responsible experience in traffic engineering
Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities, and Specialty Requirements:
Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record.
Professional Engineers License (Issued by Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying) in civil or structural engineering is required within six months of start date.
