We're looking for a hands-on Quality Systems Engineer with project management and problem solving skills to work in our collaborative manufacturing and engineering team environment. While reporting to the Manager of Operational Quality, you'll provide manufacturing quality engineering support to our ISO 9000 certified manufacturing facility in Lake Forest and focus on our Custom Products Group, which manufactures customer specific permanent instrument detection systems. Inspect and validate critical processes to ensure alignment with established ISO policies and procedures.
Define and execute specific customer and agency (such as ATEX, CSA, FM, CCCF, etc.) quality requirements as they pertain to the products being developed and manufactured.
Validate, maintain and implement inspection plans for new Custom System product launches.
Assist in the identification of critical steps in processes to aid in the training of associates (such as IPC610A).
Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of process controls and reaction plans.
Use 4D/8D to investigate and define corrective and preventative actions pertaining to defective components, materials and products.
Participate in supplier development and selection audits, including both domestic and possibly foreign suppliers.
Manage Customer Quality Notification (CQN) reports and corrective action requests.
Schedule/perform ISO, ATEX and CCCF internal audits.
Assist with implementing and maintaining 6S initiatives as they apply to this functional area.
Approve new / upgraded / modified test systems in manufacturing. Perform DVT/DMT (Desired Validation Testing and Desired Maturity Testing). Perform incoming parts inspection for electrochemical sensors as needed.
Partner with the incoming inspection department to create quality plans for purchased material.
Maintain equipment calibration recall system.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Experience in an ISO 9000, preferably ISO 9001/2010 manufacturing environment.
Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a positive and proactive way.
Proven ability to effectively lead projects, manage multiple tasks, solve technical problems, and work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project.
Experience in DFT manufacturing and six sigma techniques.
Ability to perform in a team oriented environment.
Demonstrated success in driving execution - act independently, take initiative, and follow assignment through to completion.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Understanding of complex flow systems and/or gas detection systems.
Experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
Experience in SAP.
Experience with agency controlled devices.
Experience in lean manufacturing, Kaizen and Six Sigma methodologies.
Experience with SAP Quality Module (QM) and SAP Integrated Quality Optimization System (IQOS)
Education and experience required:
This position is available at three different career levels depending on experience, education, etc.:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Natural Sciences or related technical engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience.
PhD may be substituted for up to 4 years of equivalent experience.
2 years relevant Quality Engineering and/or related Engineering experience.
3 years relevant Quality Engineering and/or related Engineering experience.
Preferred Education & Experience:
ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt
