The Richmond District Location & Design section is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to serve as a road design team leader and responsible charge for roadway design projects. The selected candidate will lead a team of designers and engineers supporting preconstruction project activities including the design, production, estimation, documentation, and review of right-of-way and construction plans while ensuring projects proceed in a manner that support VDOT’s on-time, on-budget requirements.
If applicant pool is not sufficient to fill as an Engineer Senior Supervisor Roadway Design, the position may be filled as an Engineer Roadway Design, Pay Band 5, Salary Range: $66,681 – $83,351. The lower level position will require experience designing, managing and producing right of way and construction plans for transportation projects; managing project schedules; conducting project scoping and cost estimates; and performing quality control throughout the design process. Preferred skill in utilizing MicroStation, GeoPak/OpenRoads and 3D software. Experience in roadway design and project management for transportation projects preferred. Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred.
VDOT is an emergency response agency; therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed.
Minimum qualifications include:
• Valid Professional Engineer’s license • Experience applying roadway design criteria, basic storm water management regulations, construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials • Experience applying civil engineering principles related to roadway design • Knowledge of local, state, and federal transportation rules, regulations, specifications, and standards • Skill in the use of computers and software applications including engineering and design software • Ability to supervise, coach, counsel, and train others • Ability to effectively plan and schedule work • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing • Valid driver’s license
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree. • Certification as a Project Management Professional. • Progressively responsible experience in roadway design and project management to include responsible charge engineering.
