If you are a research scientist with a passion for solving biomedical questions using complex, high-dimensional genetics datasets in conjunction with innovative methods, then the Computational Systems Immunology group is the team for you. As a Computational Geneticist, you will be an agile and core contributor in the research of impactful, data-driven problems in Pfizer’s R&D organization. Your core mission is to support our quest for better targets and precision medicine strategies at all stages of the drug discovery process in the Inflammation and Immunology unit. You will conduct integrated analyses anchored in large-scale genetics data and linking to different data modalities, e.g. transcriptomics, metabolomics, and proteomics.
Provide quantitative genetics and/or disease-genetics expertise to scientists in the Immunology/Inflammation and clinical research units for genetic study design, implementation, and results interpretation.
Provide expertise, advice, and analyses on the application of computational biology and genetics to inform: identification of novel therapeutic targets; review and validation of therapeutic hypotheses; mechanistic understanding of disease pathogenesis and causal pathways; provide innovative approaches to identifying mechanism related biomarkers via integrating genetics with other data types.
Collaborate with other team members in performing multi-omics data analysis and integrating public and proprietary omics data resources for novel insights into disease biology.
Serve as genetics/computational biology lead interacting with internal experts in statistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, precision medicine clinicians, and research project leaders to deliver pharmacogenetics projects with follow up on functional validation.
Survey the literature and conferences for discoveries and findings from the broader genetics community. Integrate such findings into study opportunities and considerations internally.
Responsible for ensuring high-quality genetic/computational biology data is incorporated into exploratory research programs
Communicate and report study findings and analyses with leadership, colleagues, and collaborators.
Work collaboratively with other integrative biologists in Pfizer at both a scientific and infrastructure level Lead and actively participate in project teams to mine multi-omics data sets for new targets, appropriate indications for existing assets, as well as informing precision medicine strategies.
Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Bio-Statistics, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. 5+ years of relevant experience applying quantitative approached to solving biological problems.
Strong experience in solving challenging biological problems with a core focus on at least one modern quantitative approach, such as computational genetics, biological networks, single-cell and bulk sequencing approaches, machine learning and probabilistic modelling, translational analysis of clinical data etc.
Expertise in handling multi-omics (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, etc.) and / or clinical data.
Background in human biology/medicine, with a practical, working knowledge of disease pathophysiology in Immunology & Inflammation-relevant indications is desirable.
Expert knowledge in statistical programming languages such as R. Working knowledge of scripting languages such as python.
Good quantitative skills, e.g. in the areas of probabilistic modelling, statistical and machine learning, Bayesian reasoning, graph-based algorithms.
Experience with biological data and relevant public or propriertary databases relating to inflammatory or auto-immune diseases desirable.
Passion and curiosity for biological problems and computational solutions and proven ability to take ideas from research to production.
Published work in academic conferences or industry circles. Candidates may be invited to present a talk on their work as part of the interview process.
