The City of Delray Beach is recruiting nationally for a highly experienced professional to manage a full-service public works department with significant capital projects and operational activities that continuously supports and improves the quality of life in Delray Beach. The successful candidate will have a broad background in all aspects of public works operations, with a strong track record of success in managing a multi-faceted department. The new at-will Director will work closely with the City Manager’s office and will be directly responsible for a department of approximately 94 full-time employees, an operations budget of over $22 million, and an on-going capital projects budget of approximately $79 million.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or a closely related field) and possession of a Certificate of Registration as a professional civil engineer in the State of Florida. A minimum of 7 years of increasingly responsible public works experience including 3 years of administrative and management responsibility is required. Public works experience with a municipal government or public agency is essential for success in this position. Candidates with current or recent private sector experience are strongly encouraged to apply if career history is complemented with previous public sector experience.
The salary range for this position is up to $152,297 (DOQ) in addition to $220 per month Auto Allowance. The Public Works Director will also receive an excellent benefits package including paid leave, comprehensive insurance, retirement benefits, and negotiable relocation costs.
