The Madison County Council of Governments (MCCOG) is accepting applications for a Traffic/Transportation Engineer who will support the transportation systems planning, analysis, and forecasting activities and local technical assistance program of the Anderson Metropolitan Planning Area. Support will be provided using travel demand forecasting, development and updating of transportation planning & engineering tools, analysis of transportation data including mobility and safety data, analysis of a wide variety of transportation data sources, and facility design recommendations. Candidates should illustrate dedication to supporting the public interest and an understanding of the role design plays in benefiting the public realm. MCCOG may require travel within the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area, as well as the Anderson metropolitan area for business purposes.
Coordinate and prepare traffic impact studies, traffic signal warrant analysis, traffic signal design, construction phasing and traffic control plans, signing and pavement marking plans and geometric design
Develop designs and engineering reports from preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets, engineering directives, and other data, according to agency specifications
Develop and update transportation planning and engineering tools
Assist in the development of planning documents
Provide input on site-specific design proposals
Coordinate and work with local planning agency stakeholders
Oversee project level work, including other staff, as necessary
Perform cost analysis, prepare cost estimates and contracts, and monitor construction activities
Travel for various training and conference opportunities
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Team-oriented individual willing to assist with a wide range of projects
Desire to see best practice and innovative design practice implemented
Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully
Experience with object-oriented and/or statistical analysis programming languages, such as SAS, Python, and R
Experience with Geographic Information Systems software, such as ESRI ArcGIS Pro and/or Caliper TransCAD
B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited school
PE Certification Required
PTOE Certification Desired
Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation, Synchro/Sim Traffic, Highway Capacity Software
Familiar with transportation/traffic design standards including MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, AASHTO Green Book, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, NACTO Urban Street Design Guide, and INDOT road design standards.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is dependent on incumbent qualifications, and will include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement pension through the Indiana Public Retirement System (IN-PRS).
