Assistant Professor – Food Systems Engineering: is a full-time, tenuretrack, 12-month position with a research (70%) and teaching (30%) appointment within the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAEG). The 70% research appointment may be shared with the Department of Food Science (FDSC) and tenure home will be in BAEG. The candidate is expected to develop nationally recognized research program for transforming food processing and manufacturing to support sustainable food systems in the state such as poultry and/or emerging alternate proteins industry for customized or personalized foods. Advanced and transformative processing technologies to manufacture food to meet personal nutrition and health needs present an opportunity to grow the value and significance of food industry and enhances job opportunities in the state. To address the need and opportunity, the expertise in, but not limited to, rheological and engineering properties of food and related biomaterials as well as applications of engineering fundamentals in food processing is vital. Also, research addressing the needs of the sustainable/emerging food system development requires the expertise of food engineers working on multidisciplinary teams and making systematic approaches to add value to the food and agriculture industry in the state and region. This position will complement faculty in the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station and in the College of Engineering on advanced food manufacturing and sustainable food systems. The candidate will develop an extramurally-funded research program, teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses at BAEG, and serve as the research advisor for PhD and MS students as well as undergraduate honors students in both BAEG and FDSC. The candidate will actively engage faculty from other disciplines and physical locations and aggressively pursue extramural funding for their program. The candidate will also serve the Department, Division, College and University committees as assigned and as opportunity and expertise permits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Agricultural, Biological, Food or closely related engineering discipline conferred by the start of employment. Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills should be evident. Working in a team setting and mentoring graduate students is essential. It is important that the successful applicant demonstrates plans and/or evidences to secure, manage and deliver extramurally funded projects. The candidate will be or have the ability to become a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in food process engineering is highly preferred.
