The Transportation Associate works under the direction and guidance of the Transportation Manager and works collaboratively with other RKA associates in leading the Company toward its long-term vision of being the preeminent transportation consulting firm. This role performs the operations and tasks to support many Company projects. This is an exempt position, and serves as an ambassador of the RKA brand to internal and external clients.
Primary Responsibilities and Expectations
Performs various engineering related calculations and analyses of information to complete assigned projects.
Designs and coordinates traffic engineering project tasks.
Coordinates client and review agencies and provides task management for small to mid-size transportation projects.
Provides technical support for a variety of transportation engineering and planning projects.
Supports the development of traffic projections, transportation analysis, roadway design, and/or transportation planning evaluations using various traffic analysis software programs.
Assists with the development and production of project deliverables, including written documentation and graphics.
Assists in pursuit of new clients and projects.
Helps build and foster relationships with existing clients.
Assists with business development activities in the area of traffic engineering and transportation planning.
Manages traffic counters.

The Transportation Associate may, from time to time, be assigned tasks and/or responsibilities beyond the description or scope of the job described on these pages.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and E.I. certificate in the state where this person’s work is primarily performed.
Experience: One - two years of overall and progressively responsible experience with public and private sector projects, ideally in the A/E/C industry.
Able to analyze, interpret, and present data.
Able to meet time sensitive deadlines.
Able to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously.
Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
Knowledge in the use of various traffic engineering software programs, including Synchro, Transmodeler, SIDRA, AutoCAD/Microstation, and SimTraffic.
Effective verbal communication skills with colleagues, clients, and Public officials. Must be able to explain scopes of work and obtain quotes from vendors.
Effective organizational skills to maintain deliverables, analytical results, and field notes in project files.
Effective writing skills to assist with report writing, proposal preparation, and engineering/construction cost estimates.
Able to work effectively in group settings or as an individual.
Assists with client contact and communication pertaining to specific tasks.
Ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion.
