MTA NYC Transit is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the senior executive team. This position will report to the President of NYCT. The Chief Operating Office will partner with the SVP of Buses and the SVP of Subways on large operational initiatives and new initiatives under the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) transformation plan. The selected candidate will serve as a key executive responsible for establishing and meeting performance targets for safety, efficiency, effectiveness and performance. This position also helps lead the operational response to major items such as the implementation of new administrative processes and procedures.
Additionally, the COO will lead the NYCT transformation efforts, in accordance with the MTA’s larger transformation program to create a world class passenger surface transportation organization that is recognized for being a premier leader in effectiveness, efficiency, performance and innovation. The COO will build and maintain excellent working relationships with other MTA agencies, various labor unions, governmental officials, vendors and other internal and external customers. The COO will serve as a visible and accessible leader who provides daily mentorship; builds relationships that encourage a collaborative and team-oriented environment; and strongly supports the overall MTA strategy and mission while encouraging a creative, professional, team-oriented culture.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Transportation, Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance or a closely related field of study and 15 years of full-time related experience of which (10) years must have been in a managerial / supervisory capacity; or
A satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Must possess a minimum of 15 years progressively responsible, senior level management or department head experience in a line function and a proven record as a line manager of a large, multi-functional Transportation operation with operating staff experience.
Experience in managing a staff and budget.
Excellent communication, problem solving, analytical and presentation skills.
Proven leadership and management skills.
