Assistant Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering
The aim of this search is to find a colleague to complement current expertise in asphalt materials, pavement evaluation and design, and general materials characterization at Oklahoma State University. Candidates with a broad interest in civil engineering materials are encouraged to apply. Some specific areas of interest include but are not limited to: advanced material characterization including binder chemistry, and rheology, asphalt durability mechanisms with an emphasis on damage formation and binder and aggregate interface, constituent modeling with an emphasis on visco- elesto-plastic behavior, multi-phase modeling, and chemical modeling of asphalt binders, development of novel asphalt binders such as bio-binders, binder modification using nano technology and sustainable asphalt materials.
The successful candidate must have an academic background to teach undergraduate courses in construction materials in the Civil and Environmental Engineering curriculum, as well as teach new and/or existing graduate courses in their areas of expertise. A Ph.D. in, or closely related to, Materials Engineering or Civil Engineering is required. It is expected that candidates can become licensed as a Professional Engineer within 6 years of appointment.
Oklahoma State University is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, approximately 60 miles from both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The campus services approximately 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering currently has 13 faculty members, 268 undergraduate students, and 70 graduate students. The School is a unique blend of teaching and research excellence. Research expenditures were $3.6 million in 2019 or approximately $225,000 per faculty member. The OSU civil engineering program is undergoing a major expansion through the construction of new offices and classrooms as well as the new Endeavor Lab. The Endeavor Lab is a 72,000 sf interdisciplinary undergraduate laboratory opened in the fall semester of 2018. The School is also home to the 30,000 SF Bert Cooper Engineering Laboratory which supports the Oklahoma DOT's Materials Training and Certification programs.
Ph.D. in a field closely related to Materials Engineering or Civil Engineering is required. We specifically hope to attract applicants of diverse backgrounds. Because of historical legacy, the State of Oklahoma has an American Indian population 7 times the national average.
