A Senior Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for the successful completion of a wide variety of geotechnical engineering projects through independent action and the use of reasonable judgement. S/he nurtures existing client relationships and develops new client relationships primarily in assigned market sectors (i.e., Transportation, Commercial/Retail Development, Energy, Industrial, Water/Waste Water, Municipal, etc.). As a senior staff member, s/he provides leadership and technical mentoring to other department and office staff members, with a primary focus on mentoring Staff- and Project-level Engineers. S/he is responsible for the financial success of the projects managed, and contributes to the financial success of the department, office, and the firm. S/he also reduces liability by managing risk and fostering mutually beneficial client relationships. Key Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for project management and execution, including developing an appropriate scope of services, establishing and maintaining the project budget, setting and adhering to the deliverable schedule, managing staff resources and subconsultants/subcontractors, maintaining responsible charge of all engineering analyses and reporting writing, and overseeing all project-related communication and client interaction.
Utilizes sound engineering judgement and employs both engineering and business best practices to manage risk and reduce liability.
Actively participate in at least one professional or business organization, such as ASCE or ACEC, serving on an external committee or as a board member actively supporting the organization.
Manage and/or directly participate in the preparation of statements of qualification for project pursuits; directs and leads staff in marketing efforts (meetings, luncheons, events, etc.) with clients, and local, federal, or state officials.
Conducts and manages business development activities including establishing new clients/business, managing existing clients, seeking new project opportunities, and is responsible for coordinating and developing proposal/pursuit submittals.
Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to read and interpret documents accurately and efficiently. Ability to write reports and correspondence legibly, accurately and professionally.
Able to communicate effectively with clients, contractors, supervisors, and co-workers.
Professional Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelors of Science degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
Masters of Science (M.S.) degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
15+ years’ experience (with at least 7+ years in a senior consulting engineering role).
Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Idaho or the ability to obtain Idaho registration within 3 months of hire.
Knowledge and experience with geotechnical engineering analysis software (LPILE, Slope/W, GRL WEAP, etc.).
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, etc.).
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Adherence to STRATA’s policies, particularly the drug and alcohol policy.
Travel as necessary to support project work and/or other offices.
Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
