Description
The School of Engineering Medicine is seeking a collaborative leader to serve as the Director of Immersion Activities. This position is for a full-time, non-tenured faculty member at the rank of Instructional Assistant Professor, Instructional Associate Professor, or Instructional Professor. This position involves a mixture of administrative and education components.
ENMED is the School of Engineering Medicine’s innovative medical education program, developed in collaboration with Texas A&M College of Medicine, Texas A&M College of Engineering and Houston Methodist Hospital. ENMED graduates receive a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Engineering in four years. This first-in-the-nation program blends experiential learning in engineering innovation with medical school training to create a new type of healthcare professional, a “physicianeer” with the goal of transforming health care. ENMED is located in Houston’s Texas Medical Center.
All ENMED students must complete three innovation immersion experiences called “innovation rotations”. These innovation rotations provide ENMED students with unique opportunities to gain experience and contribute to the design and development of innovative medical technologies. This may be accomplished by contributing to ideas initiated by ENMED collaborators or developing their own ideas.
The Director will work with industry, clinical, and academic collaborators to identify and coordinate unique innovation rotation opportunities for ENMED students. When the students identify their own potential solutions to clinical problems, the Director will work with ENMED’s partners to identify potential mentors to guide development of the solution. The Director will work with the respective TAMU and collaborator contracting offices to establish IP agreements as necessary. The Director will also work with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to gain approval for human subject research when necessary. This position will also work with the advising office and engineering faculty to coordinate course credit for the innovation rotations.
