Kimley-Horn is responsible for the complete staffing of the City of Austin’s Mobility Management Center (MMC) during weekdays, weekends, and special events. The Kimley-Horn team oversees the operations of approximately 1100 traffic signals using the City’s ATMS, traffic cameras, and dynamic message signs (DMS). In addition to adjusting operations daily to changing traffic conditions, MMC staff manage over 100 special events across the City each year including South by Southwest Conference and Festival, Austin City Limits Music Festival, University of Texas football games, Austin FC soccer matches, Grand Prix races at Circuit of the Americas, and many more. The MMC serves as a data visualization and analysis hub for the Austin Transportation Department and specializes in turning big data into usable insight. The MMC uses signal performance measures (SPMs) and crowd-sourced data to identify issues and trends in the City’s transportation network to which the then recommend and implement countermeasures and solutions.
Responsibilities:
Operate City’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) and network of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices
Manage team of MMC operators
Monitor traffic signal operations and evaluate system performance
Adjust traffic signal phasing and timing based on changing traffic conditions
Investigate, remedy, respond, and track Citizen Service Requests (CSRs) regarding traffic signal infrastructure and operations
Coordinate maintenance activities with team of signal technicians
Manage traffic signal operations for large special events like Austin City Limits (ACL), college football, Major League Soccer, and more
Review Traffic Control Plans and evaluate changes in traffic signal operations necessary for construction and congestion management
Analyze transportation data and trends
Facilitate and manage meetings between City and consultant staff
Manage and coordinate project work activities (track progress, provide weekly updates to the client, etc.)
